Moving Day

When the moving company arrives to pick up your possessions, you, or an authorized adult, must be present to oversee the complete loading process from start to finish. Inventory items with the mover and note the condition of them accordingly. Rest assured that your belongings will be in the hands of licensed, bonded, and insured professional movers who make their living taking care of other people’s property as if it were their own. Bring attention to any fragile goods that may require special attention by the movers. If there are certain pieces or boxes that may be needed first, when you get to your new home, tell the movers at this time. You will need to make sure that all of your items are loaded BEFORE signing the final inventory and Bill of Lading or Freight Bill. The Bill of Lading or Freight Bill defines the terms and conditions under which the transport of your belongings will be made and acts as your shipping receipt. Be sure and enter an amount in the declared value section* and sign it. Get your copies of any documentation and keep in a safe, secure location.

After all your items are loaded and secured in the moving truck, be sure that the driver has the exact address of your new home and any pertinent directions on making his trip more efficient. You must also give the driver instructions on how to contact you so that he can do so upon the delivery of your possessions to your new home. While the moving company may have your information and phone number, the driver may not.
